A&M Records is an American record label founded in 1962 by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss (the initials of their last names are in the name of the company). The label was originally dedicated to releasing records by Alpert himself and his orchestra Tijuana Brass. Then, as the label became commercially successful, other pop artists (Black, Baja Marimba Band, Sergio Mendez, Brazil '66, Burt Bacharach, Claudine Longer) began to record on the label. The label subsequently released music from various genres. In 1999 it was absorbed by Interscope Records and Verve Records.
